HLS 14RS-2834 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 63 BY REPRESENTATIVE STOKES SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes Tuesday, April 8, 2014, as March of Dimes Day at the state capitol A RESOLUTION1 To recognize Tuesday, April 8, 2014, as March of Dimes Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.2 WHEREAS, the March of Dimes was founded in 1938 by President Franklin D.3 Roosevelt and supported the development of the polio vaccine that eradicated the disease4 from the United States; and5 WHEREAS, the same polio vaccine continues to protect babies today and through6 the support of March of Dimes there has not been a single outbreak of polio in the United7 States in more than thirty years; and8 WHEREAS, in Louisiana, over 62,000 babies are born each year and 9,400 of those9 babies are born prematurely; and10 WHEREAS, the March of Dimes has helped each and every one of those babies11 through their research, education, vaccines, and breakthroughs; and12 WHEREAS, on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, March of Dimes volunteers and staff from13 across the state are visiting the Louisiana State Capitol to raise awareness about the serious14 need to protect Louisiana babies and to advocate for policies that improve the quality of care15 for Louisiana moms and babies.16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the17 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby welcome volunteers and staff of the March of Dimes18 and does hereby recognize Tuesday, April 8, 2014, as March of Dimes Day at the Louisiana19 State Capitol.20 HLS 14RS-2834 ORIGINAL HR NO. 63 Page 2 of 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all Louisiana citizens are hereby encouraged to1 support the March of Dimes in its research efforts to find the causes of preterm birth and2 reduce the number of birth defects, premature births, and infant mortalities.3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted4 to the state director of the March of Dimes Louisiana Chapter.5 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
