HLS 14RS-1494 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 8 BY REPRESENTATIVE PIERRE COMMENDATIONS: Commends Sandra Chaisson Brown upon being recognized in 2014 as a Louisianian of the Year by Louisiana Life magazine A RESOLUTION1 To commend Sandra Chaisson Brown upon her selection by Louisiana Life magazine as a2 Louisianian of the Year in 2014.3 WHEREAS, Sandra Chaisson Brown grew up in Lafayette where she earned a4 nursing degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and began her medical career5 as a nurse at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital; and6 WHEREAS, Ms. Brown's desire to teach led her to New Orleans to obtain a master's7 degree from the LSU Health Sciences Center, and while working at Charity Hospital in New8 Orleans, Ms. Brown pursued a doctorate in nursing; and9 WHEREAS, heeding the call to help launch a master's degree program at the nursing10 school at Southern University and A&M College, Ms. Brown moved to Baton Rouge; after11 being awarded a post-doctoral fellowship, she became certified as a nurse practitioner12 through a program at the University of Tennessee and returned to Southern University to13 launch a nurse practitioner program in 1996; and14 WHEREAS, Ms. Brown expanded Southern University's offerings to include a Ph.D.15 nursing program with a doctor of nursing practice curriculum, and for her dedication to16 quality in nursing education at Southern University's nursing school, Ms. Brown was named17 Nursing Educator of the Year by the Louisiana State Nurses Association and Louisiana18 Nurses Foundation in the spring of 2013; and19 HLS 14RS-1494 ORIGINAL HR NO. 8 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, the Southern University nurse practitioner program graduates an1 average of forty students a year, turns out the largest number of minority nurse practitioners2 in the country, and its students boast a ninety-five percent success rate on the national3 certification exam; and4 WHEREAS, the health and prosperity of the citizens of Louisiana are due in large5 part to the talents and skills of hardworking people like Sandra Chaisson Brown, and it is6 appropriate to commend her upon her recognition as a Louisianian of the Year in 2014 by7 Louisiana Life magazine.8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the9 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Sandra Chaisson Brown upon her prestigious10 designation by Louisiana Life magazine as a Louisianian of the Year in 2014; does hereby11 express its appreciation for the positive imprint her work in nursing has made upon the12 healthy fabric of our great state; and does hereby extend best wishes to Sandra Chaisson13 Brown as she continues to sow seeds of good health in the land of Louisiana.14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted15 to Sandra Chaisson Brown.16 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
