SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates April 27 through May 4, 2014, as Soil and
Water Stewardship Week at the legislature
A RESOLUTION1
To designate April 27 through May 4, 2014, as Soil and Water Stewardship Week at the2
legislature.3
WHEREAS, the landscape of Louisiana reflects productive farm and grasslands,4
stately forests, meandering streams and bayous, thriving wetlands, abundant wildlife, and5
rural and urban communities; and6
WHEREAS, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the soil from which we grow our7
food, fiber, and forest products, and the diverse habitat supporting a myriad of wildlife, all8
contribute to Louisiana's quality of life and prosperity; and9
WHEREAS, soil and water are two of the most essential natural resources, and the10
quality of life for all of our citizens depends on wise stewardship of our soil and water11
resources; and12
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources13
Conservation Service, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, the State Soil14
and Water Conservation Commission, and local soil and water conservation districts work15
in partnership to help Louisiana's private landowners and managers conserve and protect16
soil, water, and other natural resources; and17
WHEREAS, Louisiana's forty-four soil and water conservation districts, administered18
by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, office of soil and water19
conservation, work hand-in-hand with the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural20 HLS 14RS-3272 ORIGINAL

Resources Conservation Service to deliver conservation programs to private landowners and1
managers and educate citizens of all ages about conserving soil and water resources.2
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the3
Legislature of Louisiana, in full appreciation of the value of soil and water resources to the4
citizens of the state and desiring to honor those who protect it, does hereby proclaim April5
27 through May 4, 2014, as Soil and Water Stewardship Week at the legislature, urge its6
citizens to recognize the significance of our soil and water resources, and commend our7
conservation partnership in their efforts to help citizens preserve these resources for8
generations to come.9
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted10
to the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, office of soil and water11
conservation.12
