ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 88 BY REPRESENTATIVE ANDERS A RESOLUTION To designate April 27 through May 4, 2014, as Soil and Water Stewardship Week at the legislature. WHEREAS, the landscape of Louisiana reflects productive farm and grasslands, stately forests, meandering streams and bayous, thriving wetlands, abundant wildlife, and rural and urban communities; and WHEREAS, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the soil from which we grow our food, fiber, and forest products, and the diverse habitat supporting a myriad of wildlife, all contribute to Louisiana's quality of life and prosperity; and WHEREAS, soil and water are two of the most essential natural resources, and the quality of life for all of our citizens depends on wise stewardship of our soil and water resources; and WHEREAS, the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, the State Soil and Water Conservation Commission, and local soil and water conservation districts work in partnership to help Louisiana's private landowners and managers conserve and protect soil, water, and other natural resources; and WHEREAS, Louisiana's forty-four soil and water conservation districts, administered by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, office of soil and water conservation, work hand-in-hand with the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service to deliver conservation programs to private landowners and managers and educate citizens of all ages about conserving soil and water resources. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana, in full appreciation of the value of soil and water resources to the citizens of the state and desiring to honor those who protect it, does hereby proclaim April ENROLLEDHR NO. 88 Page 2 of 2 27 through May 4, 2014, as Soil and Water Stewardship Week at the legislature, urge its citizens to recognize the significance of our soil and water resources, and commend our conservation partnership in their efforts to help citizens preserve these resources for generations to come. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, office of soil and water conservation.
