HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 90
BY REPRESENTATIVE THOMPSON
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the Bossier Parish Community College debate team and
coaches for an award-winning 2013-2014 season
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Bossier Parish Community College debate team for its completion of an2
award-winning 2013-2014 season.3
WHEREAS, the Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) debate team recently4
completed its 2013-2014 season by competing at the 2014 International Public Debate5
Association (IPDA) national championship tournament; and6
WHEREAS, the 2013-2014 BPCC debate team was comprised of Natalie Banks,7
Erika Hill, Prince Lofton, and David Tillmon; and8
WHEREAS, the team returned from the IPDA tournament with impressive honors9
in tow; and10
WHEREAS, Team Captain Erika Hill finished her 2013-2014 season in the varsity11
division of debate ranked as the number one community college student in the nation; and12
WHEREAS, novice division debater Prince Lofton finished the year ranked as the13
number three ranked community college student; and14
WHEREAS, beginning in 2006, the IPDA began honoring a "Coach of the Year"15
each year, and three years later the organization renamed the award the Bennett Strange16
Coach of the Year, in honor of the late Bennett Strange, who coached the Louisiana College17
debate team from 1988 to 2006 and taught for a semester at BPCC in 2006; and18
WHEREAS, BPCC debate coach Bob Alexander was named the Bennett Strange19
Coach of the Year at the IPDA's annual awards banquet held on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at20 HLS 14RS-3462	ORIGINAL

Middle Tennessee State University, becoming the first coach from a community college to1
earn this award; and2
WHEREAS, in addition to the individual awards, the BPCC debate team wrapped3
up the 2013-2014 season with its most successful year to date, earning thirty-one awards and4
four championships competing against programs from such well-known schools as Texas5
A&M International University, the United States Military Academy at West Point, and6
Whitworth University; and7
WHEREAS, it is fitting for the Louisiana House of Representatives to commend the8
BPCC debate team for its outstanding accomplishments over the course of the 2013-20149
season.10
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the11
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Bossier Parish Community College12
debate team for its completion of an award-winning 2013-2014 season and extends13
congratulations to the coaches and students for their many successes.14
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted15
to the Bossier Parish Community College debate coach, Bob Alexander.16
