COMMENDATIONS : Commends the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce's
Business Development Connection upon the occasion of its annual Minority
Business Opportunity Awards Gala on April 24, 2014
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce's Business Development2
Connection upon the occasion of its annual Minority Business Opportunity Awards3
Gala on April 24, 2014.4
WHEREAS, in support of its mission to promote the development of multicultural5
business activity in the Shreveport area, each year since 2005, the Greater Shreveport6
Chamber of Commerce's Business Development Connection has hosted a Minority Business7
Opportunity Awards Gala for the purpose of celebrating members of the minority business8
community who have been nominated by other chamber members for recognition based on9
their exceptional achievements in business and community development; and 10
WHEREAS, from those nominated, individuals and businesses will be selected to11
receive awards at the gala on April 24, 2014, in the following categories: Top Business12
Professional of the Year, Small Business Owner of the Year, Emerging Business of the Year,13
Business of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement Award; and 14
WHEREAS, the award for the Top Business Professional shall be given to a minority15
individual who consistently exemplifies the highest standards of professional excellence,16
whose performance on the job is that of a respected leader or example to his or her17
colleagues, who has a record of accomplishments, and who has demonstrated a commitment18

WHEREAS, the award for the Small Business Owner of the Year shall be given to1
either a minority individual or a partnership of up to four persons who own, operate, and2
bear the principal responsibility for operating a small business of less than fifty employees;3
and4
WHEREAS, the award for the Emerging Business of the Year shall be given to a5
minority-owned business started within the last three years that has established a niche6
within the business community and is poised for future growth; and 7
WHEREAS, the award for the Business of the Year shall be given to an established8
business that creates opportunities for minority-owned businesses and minority individuals9
and that has a strong philanthropic commitment to the community; and10
WHEREAS, a Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to an individual who is11
both widely known for his or her many accomplishments in business and highest standards12
of professional excellence throughout their career, and who has demonstrated an enduring13
commitment to community service.14
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the15
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Greater Shreveport Chamber of16
Commerce's Business Development Connection upon the occasion of its annual Minority17
Business Opportunity Awards Gala on April 24, 2014.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted19
to the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce's Business Development Connection.20
