HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 94
BY REPRESENTATIVE BURRELL
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce's Business Development
Connection upon the occasion of its annual Minority Business Opportunity Awards
Gala on April 24, 2014.
WHEREAS, in support of its mission to promote the development of multicultural
business activity in the Shreveport area, each year since 2005, the Greater Shreveport
Chamber of Commerce's Business Development Connection has hosted a Minority Business
Opportunity Awards Gala for the purpose of celebrating members of the minority business
community who have been nominated by other chamber members for recognition based on
their exceptional achievements in business and community development; and 
WHEREAS, from those nominated, individuals and businesses will be selected to
receive awards at the gala on April 24, 2014, in the following categories:  Top Business
Professional of the Year, Small Business Owner of the Year, Emerging Business of the Year,
Business of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement Award; and 
WHEREAS, the award for the Top Business Professional shall be given to a minority
individual who consistently exemplifies the highest standards of professional excellence,
whose performance on the job is that of a respected leader or example to his or her
colleagues, who has a record of accomplishments, and who has demonstrated a commitment
to community service; and 
WHEREAS, the award for the Small Business Owner of the Year shall be given to
either a minority individual or a partnership of up to four persons who own, operate, and
bear the principal responsibility for operating a small business of less than fifty employees;

WHEREAS, the award for the Emerging Business of the Year shall be given to a
minority-owned business started within the last three years that has established a niche
within the business community and is poised for future growth; and 
WHEREAS, the award for the Business of the Year shall be given to an established
business that creates opportunities for minority-owned businesses and minority individuals
and that has a strong philanthropic commitment to the community; and
WHEREAS, a Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to an individual who is
both widely known for his or her many accomplishments in business and highest standards
of professional excellence throughout their career, and who has demonstrated an enduring
commitment to community service.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Greater Shreveport Chamber of
Commerce's Business Development Connection upon the occasion of its annual Minority
Business Opportunity Awards Gala on April 24, 2014.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce's Business Development Connection.
