HLS 14RS-3669 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 97 BY REPRESENTATIVE BURRELL CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Sammie Lee Draper Holt A RESOLUTION1 To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Sammie Lee2 Draper Holt of Shreveport.3 WHEREAS, Sammie Lee Draper was born in Greenwood, Louisiana, on August 28,4 1903, the seventh of thirteen children of the late Willis Draper and Ida Black; and5 WHEREAS, Sammie Lee confessed Christ at an early age and joined Greenwood6 Baptist Church #1 where she served faithfully until she moved to Shreveport; there, she7 united with Trinity Baptist Church and was active in Sunday School and the deaconess,8 missions, and prayer ministries; and9 WHEREAS, Sammie Lee Draper met and married James S. Holt, Jr., and this union10 produced three sons and one daughter; and11 WHEREAS, Mrs. Holt volunteered for community activities and took a special12 interest in the National Council of Negro Women and the Centralites Club, where she was13 known as a strong, practical, spiritual woman with a friendly disposition; and14 WHEREAS, preceding her in death was her husband; her daughter, Jeanette Marie15 Holt; and eleven siblings; she leaves to cherish her memory her sons, James S. Holt, III, and16 wife Dorothy, Jewell Lamar Holt and wife Mary Ann, and Edwin J. Holt and wife Essie;17 nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister Elizabeth Draper Dotson; sister-in-law18 Doris Holt Willis; and a host of other relatives and friends; and19 WHEREAS, on April 19, 2014, Mrs. Sammie Lee Draper Holt traded her mortal20 form for immortality with the Lord and her loved ones in eternity, and it is appropriate to21 HLS 14RS-3669 ORIGINAL HR NO. 97 Page 2 of 2 celebrate the extraordinary one hundred ten year span of her life on Earth and to express the1 condolences of the House of Representatives upon the passing of this great centenarian.2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the3 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend deepest sympathies to the family and friends4 of Mrs. Sammie Lee Draper Holt; does hereby laud the one hundred ten years Mrs. Holt5 contributed to the unique fabric that is Louisiana; and does hereby express condolences on6 behalf of the citizens of the state at her passing.7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted8 to the family of Mrs. Sammie Lee Draper Holt.9 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
