(gov sig) AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 33:2476(B)(1)(d) and (C)(4), relative to the city of New Iberia municipal fire2 and police civil service system board; to provide for membership on the board; to3 provide for an effective date; and to provide for related matters.4 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 33:2476(B)(1)(d) and (C)(4) are hereby enacted to read as follows:7 ยง2476. (4) Notwithstanding the provisions of Subparagraph (3) of this1 Paragraph, in the event R.S. 33:2495.2 becomes applicable, only one member2 shall be elected from the city of New Iberia municipal fire and police civil3 service system and one member shall be appointed by the mayor of the city of4 New Iberia upon his own nomination, provided that such exception is approved5 by resolution of the city of New Iberia governing authority.6 * * *7 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not8 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature9 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. DIGEST Mills (SB 186) Present law provides for two members of a municipal fire and police civil service system to be elected from the municipal fire and the municipal police departments. Proposed law provides for only one member to be elected from the city of New Iberia municipal fire and police civil service system, provided that such exception is approved by resolution of the city of New Iberia governing authority. Proposed law further provides for the mayor of the city of New Iberia to appoint one member to the board. Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
