EDUCATION ACCOUNTABILITY. Provides for equal recognition of International
Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, and dual enrollment courses. (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 17:2928(B), relative to the school and district accountability2
system; to require that International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, and dual3
enrollment courses be given equal status and recognition for purposes of determining4
school performance scores and letter grades; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 17:2928(B) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:7
ยง2928. Graduation goals; responsibility; recognition for graduation rates and8
student academic achievement9

B.(1) The State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education shall revise11
the school and student accountability system to recognize schools and school12
districts that improve their high school graduation rates and for the number of13
students who successfully complete programs that lead to industry-based14
certifications and International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, and dual15
enrollment courses.16

enrollment courses shall be given equal status and recognition by the board for1
purposes of determining school performance scores and letter grades.2
Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not3
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature4
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If5
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become6
effective on the day following such approval.7

Present law requires the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to revise the
school and student accountability system to recognize schools and school districts that
improve their high school graduation rates and for the number of students who successfully
complete programs that lead to industry-based certifications and International Baccalaureate,
Advanced Placement, and dual enrollment courses.
Proposed law retains present law and additionally provides that International Baccalaureate,
Advanced Placement, and dual enrollment courses shall be given equal status and
recognition by the board for purposes of determining school performance scores and letter
grades.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
