ELECTION CODE. Increases the compensation for deputy parish custodians of voting
machines. (1/1/15)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 18:1354(C), relative to the Election Code, to provide for2
compensation for deputy parish custodian of voting machines; and to provide for3
related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 18:1354(C) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6
ยง1354. Parish custodian of voting machines; powers and duties; appointment of7
deputy custodians8

C. The parish custodian of voting machines may employ persons on a10
temporary basis, as needed, to assist him in the performance of his duties. He may11
appoint a deputy parish custodian of voting machines for any polling place he deems12
necessary. He may not appoint as deputy parish custodian of voting machines any13
person who has been convicted of a felony for which he has not been pardoned. The14
parish custodian shall not appoint a person who is a candidate or a member of a15
candidate's immediate family to serve in any polling location where the candidate's16
name appears on the ballot. The compensation of a deputy parish custodian shall be17 SB NO. 193

seventy-five one hundred dollars for each election at which he serves. The deputy1
parish custodian shall deliver the key envelope and the supplemental list to the2
commissioner-in-charge at least one-half hour before the fixed time for the opening3
of the polls.4
Section 2. This Act shall become effective on January 1, 2015; if vetoed by the5
governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on6
January 1, 2015, or on the day following such approval by the legislature, whichever is later.7

Present law provides the compensation for deputy parish custodians of voting machines is
$75 per day for each election he serves.
Proposed law increases compensation to $100 per day per election for deputy parish
custodians of voting machines.
Effective January 1, 2015.
