The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by James Benton. DIGEST Murray (SB 231) Present law provides that when a vacancy occurs in the office of constable or marshal and the unexpired term of the office is one year or less, absent a chief deputy, the appropriate governing authority must within ten days, appoint a person having the qualifications of the office to assume the duties of the office for the remainder of the unexpired term. Proposed law retains present law but changes the appointment delay from ten days to 20 days for purposes of consistency with the present law found in the Louisiana Election Code. Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action. (Amends R.S. 13:2583(F))
