(6/30/14) AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 11:2173(A)(1) and (6), relative to the Sheriffs' Pension and2 Relief Fund; to provide relative to membership of the board of trustees; to specify3 terms of office and designations; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for4 related matters.5 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7 Section 1. R.S. 11:2173(A)(1) and (6) are hereby amended and reenacted to read as8 follows: 9 ยง2173. Board of trustees; executive counsel; educational requirements10 A. The board of trustees shall consist of fourteen voting members as follows:11 (1) One member, who shall be an active or retired sheriff, and shall be elected12 by the members of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association as president, for a term of two13 three years from the date of taking office. A vacancy shall be filled in the same14 manner. This member3 who shall be a voting member shall be designated as secretary-treasu rer, with4 remuneration being limited to travel expenses and per diem, and whose duties shall5 consist of keeping the minutes of the meetings of the board and signing checks6 drawn on the fund. Beginning in 2014, the person so elected shall be designated7 as vice president. His term of office shall be one two years ending in 2015. In8 2015, and every three years thereafter, the person so elected shall have a term9 of office of three years.10 Section 2. This Act shall become effective on June 30, 2014; if vetoed by the11 governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on12 June 30, 2014, or on the day following such approval by the legislature, whichever is later.13 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Margaret M. Corley. DIGEST Guillory (SB 24) Present law, relative to the Sheriffs' Pension and Relief Fund provides for a president of the board of trustees to serve a two-year term. Present law provides for a secretary-treasurer to serve a one-year term. Proposed law changes the term "secretary-treasurer" to "vice president" and provides for the president and vice president to serve three-year terms. Effective June 30, 2014.
