Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 24 BY SENATOR GUILLORY AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 11:2173(A)(1) and (6), relative to the Sheriffs' Pension and2 Relief Fund; to provide relative to membership of the board of trustees; to specify3 terms of office and designations; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for4 related matters.5 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7 Section 1. R.S. 11:2173(A)(1) and (6) are hereby amended and reenacted to read as8 follows: 9 ยง2173. Board of trustees; executive counsel; educational requirements10 A. The board of trustees shall consist of fourteen voting members as follows:11 (1) One member, who shall be an active or retired sheriff, and shall be elected12 by the members of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association as president, for a term of two13 three years from the date of taking office. A vacancy shall be filled in the same14 manner. Reelection shall be permissible.15 * * *16 (6) Annually Beginning in 2013, following the assumption of office of17 members set forth above in Paragraphs (1) through (5) of this Subsection, one18 member, who shall be an active sheriff who is a participating member of the fund or19 a former sheriff who has retired and is a recipient of the fund, shall be elected by the20 members of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association. This member who shall be a voting21 member shall be designated as secretary-treasurer, with remuneration being limited22 to travel expenses and per diem, and whose duties shall consist of keeping the23 minutes of the meetings of the board and signing checks drawn on the fund. His24 term of office Beginning in 2014, the person so elected shall be designated as vice25 president. In 2015, and every three years thereafter, the person so elected1 shall have a term of office of three years.2 Section 2.
