FUNDS/FUNDING.  Provides for an increase in certain criminal court costs in the Thirty-
First Judicial District Court. (8/1/14)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 13:5722(A)(2)(d) and R.S. 15:571.11(A)(3) and to repeal R.S. 13:1000.7,2
relative to the Thirty-First Judicial District Court; to provide for an increase in3
certain criminal court costs; to provide for disposition of collections; to repeal4
nullified provisions; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 13:5722(A)(2)(d) is hereby enacted to read as follows:7
§5722. Coroner's Operational Fund established8

(d) In criminal cases, including traffic violations, in the district court in13
Jefferson Davis Parish, a fee of not more than five dollars shall be imposed on14
every defendant who is convicted after trial or plea of guilty, which fee shall be15
used solely to defray the operational costs of the office of the coroner of the16

Section 2. R.S. 15:571.11(A)(3) is hereby enacted to read as follows:2
§571.11. Dispositions of fines and forfeitures3

(3) In addition to all the fines and forfeitures authorized under the6
provisions of this Subsection, in all criminal cases, including traffic violations,7
in the Thirty-First Judicial District Court an additional fee of not more than8
five dollars shall be imposed on every defendant who is convicted after trial or9
plea of guilty, which fee shall be deposited into the "Criminal Court Fund" to10
be used solely to defray the expenses of the criminal court system of the parish.11

Section 3. R.S. 13:1000.7 is hereby repealed.13

Morrish (SB 253)
Present law establishes the Coroner's Operational Fund and a criminal court fee on certain
defendants dedicated to defraying the operational costs of the office of the coroner in the
parish in which the conviction occurred. Provides for an additional fee in certain parishes
for the support of the coroner.
Proposed law provides an additional fee of not more than five dollars on every defendant
who is convicted in district court in Jefferson Davis Parish which shall be used solely to
defray the operation costs of the coroner's office.
Present law provides relative to fines and forfeitures imposed by district courts and district
attorneys for deposit into the "Criminal Court Fund" account to be used to defray the
expenses of the criminal courts of the parishes.
Proposed law retains present law and provides for an additional fee of not more than five
dollars on every defendant who is convicted in the Thirty-First Judicial District Court which
shall be used solely to defray the costs of the criminal court system of the parish.
Proposed law repeals previously enacted court fees nullified by conditional effectiveness
provisions.
Effective August 1, 2014.
