Morrish (SB 253)
Present law establishes the Coroner's Operational Fund and a criminal court fee on certain
defendants dedicated to defraying the operational costs of the office of the coroner in the parish
in which the conviction occurred.  Provides for an additional fee in certain parishes for the
support of the coroner.
Proposed law provides an additional fee of not more than five dollars on every defendant who is
convicted in district court in Jefferson Davis Parish which shall be used solely to defray the
operation costs of the coroner's office.
Present law provides relative to fines and forfeitures imposed by district courts and district
attorneys for deposit into the "Criminal Court Fund" account to be used to defray the expenses of
the criminal courts of the parishes.
Proposed law retains present law and provides for an additional fee of not more than five dollars
on every defendant who is convicted in the Thirty-First Judicial District Court which shall be
used solely to defray the costs of the criminal court system of the parish.
Proposed law repeals previously enacted court fees nullified by conditional effectiveness
provisions.
Effective August 1, 2014.
