NOTARIES.  Provides relative to hospital notaries.(8/1/14)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 35:403(A) and (B), relative to hospital notaries; to provide2
relative to certain hospital service district hospitals; to provide for certain limitations,3
terms, conditions, and procedures; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 35:403(A) and (B) are hereby amended and reenacted to read as6
follows:7
ยง403.  Ex officio notaries for hospital service district hospitals8
A. Notwithstanding any provisions of the law relative to qualifications of9
notaries public, the director of a hospital service district hospital, created pursuant10
to the provisions of R.S. 46:1051 et seq. or any act of the Louisiana legislature,11
may appoint not more than two employees of the hospital as ex officio notaries12
public.13
B.  Such ex officio notaries may exercise the functions of a notary public14
only to administer oaths, receive sworn statements, execute affidavits,15
acknowledgments, and other documents, and shall be limited to matters within the16
official business functions of the hospital.17 SB NO. 307

Present law provides that notwithstanding any provisions of the law relative to qualifications
of notaries public, the director of a hospital service district hospital, created pursuant to the

Proposed law provides that notwithstanding any provisions of the law relative to
qualifications of notaries public, the director of a hospital service district hospital, created
pursuant to the provisions of present law or any act of the Louisiana legislature, may appoint
not more than two employees of the hospital as ex officio notaries public.
Present law provides that such ex officio notaries may exercise the functions of a notary

acknowledgments, and other documents, and shall be limited to matters within the official
functions of the hospital.
