Brown (SB 31)
Present law requires the Department of Education (DOE) to report annually to the Senate
Committee on Education, the House Committee on Education, and the Joint Legislative
Committee on the Budget regarding the implementation of the Student Scholarships for
Educational Excellence Program, including the number of eligible students receiving
scholarships, a list of participating schools and the number of scholarship recipients each such
school enrolled, and aggregate test result data for the scholarship recipients enrolled in each
participating school.
Proposed law adds each individual legislator to the list of entities that DOE must report to
annually.
Proposed law retains present law and additionally requires that the report include a list of all
participating schools grouped by legislative district and the percentage of the total enrollment of
each school represented by scholarship recipients.
Proposed law requires the DOE to send a printed copy of the report to each member of the
legislature and to certain legislative committees not later than April 30
th
 of each year.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.

Committee Amendments Proposed by Senate Committee on Education to the original bill
1. Deletes requirement for preparation of a separate report for legislators and instead
requires that the Dept. of Education report contain a list of participating schools
