Gary Smith (SB 317) Act No. 301
Prior law required law enforcement agencies to establish guidelines for the operation of seat
belt checkpoints and proof of compulsory motor vehicle liability insurance checkpoints.
New law retains prior law and requires law enforcement agencies to establish guidelines
prohibiting the establishment of checkpoints where the only vehicles subject to or targeted
for inspection are motorcycles, as defined by law.
Effective August 1, 2014.
