Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 331 BY SENATOR MORRISH AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 13:5554(G)(3), relative to the payment of group insurance premium costs for2 certain retired sheriffs and deputy sheriffs; to provide for eligibility for payment of3 such costs for retired sheriffs and retired deputy sheriffs of the Acadia Parish4 Sheriff's Office; to provide for effective dates; and to provide for related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 13:5554(G)(3) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง5554. Group insurance; kinds; amounts; subrogation8 * * *9 G.(1) * * *10 (3) Notwithstanding the provisions of Paragraph (1) of this Subsection,11 the sheriff of Acadia Parish shall pay out of the sheriff's general fund the12 premium costs of group insurance for any sheriff or deputy sheriff who is13 eligible to receive benefits from the Sheriffs' Pension and Relief Fund, as14 follows:15 (a) Fifty percent of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, and16 medical expense insurance contracted for under the provisions of this Section17 and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance contracted for under the18 provisions of this Section if the sheriff or deputy sheriff has attained the age of19 fifty-five years with twenty or more years of full-time continuous service with20 the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office.21 (b) One hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital,22 surgical, and medical expense insurance contracted for under the provisions of23 this Section and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance contracted for24 under the provisions of this Section if the sheriff or deputy sheriff has25 completed thirty years or more of full-time creditable service with twenty years26 of continuous service with the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office, regardless of age.27 ACT No. 703 SB NO. 331 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 Coding: Words which are struck through are deletions from existing law; words in boldface type and underscored are additions. (c) The provisions of Paragraph (1) of this Subsection, as applicable to1 the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office, shall apply to sheriffs and deputy sheriffs2 retired on or before December 31, 2014. The provisions of Subparagraphs (a)3 and (b) of this Paragraph shall apply to sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who retire4 on or after January 1, 2015; however, any sheriff or deputy sheriff who has met5 the eligibility requirements pursuant to Paragraph (1) of this Subsection, on or6 before June 30, 2014, may retire at any time with benefits as provided in7 Paragraph (1) of this Subsection.8 * * *9 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not10 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature11 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.
