Brown (SB 36)
Proposed law provides that at the time a initial charter school proposal or application is
submitted, the chartering authority shall notify each legislator in whose district the proposed
charter school is to be located that the application has been submitted. Provides that the
notification shall be limited to the date the proposal or application was submitted, the chartering
authority to which the proposal or application was submitted, the type of charter school the
chartering group seeks to operate, and the location of the proposed charter school.
Proposed law additionally requires the chartering authority to notify each legislator in whose
district the proposed charter school is to be located whether such proposal or application was
accepted or denied.
Proposed law provides that such notifications shall be made by both postal mail and electronic
mail to each legislator's district office.
Proposed law provides that proposed law does not apply to renewals of the charter of an existing
charter school.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
