CLERKS OF COURT. Includes the clerks of the district courts of Allen Parish, Assumption
Parish, Beauregard Parish, Calcasieu Parish, Caldwell Parish, Catahoula Parish, East Carroll
Parish, Iberville Parish, Jefferson Davis Parish, LaSalle Parish, Pointe Coupee Parish, St.
Bernard Parish, St. Martin Parish, St. Mary Parish, Union Parish and Vernon Parish among
those who can receive an automobile expense allowance. (8/1/14)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 13:783(D)(7), relative to expenses of the clerks of court; to2
authorize an automobile expense allowance for the clerks of district court for certain3
parishes; to include the clerks of district court for certain additional parishes within4
such authorization; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 13:783(D)(7) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:7

Bernard Parish, St. Charles Parish, St. Helena Parish, St. Landry Parish, St. Martin1
Parish, St. Mary Parish, St. Tammany Parish, Tangipahoa Parish, Union Parish,2
Vermilion Parish, Vernon Parish, Washington Parish, Webster Parish, West Baton3
Rouge Parish, and West Feliciana Parish, the clerks of the district courts of those4
parishes may receive an automobile expense allowance equal to fifteen percent of5
their annual salary provided the clerk of court maintains three hundred thousand6
dollars of automobile insurance per accident for bodily injury and one hundred7
thousand dollars of automobile insurance per accident for property damage. The8
expense allowance shall come from surplus funds in each of the offices of the clerks9
of court and at no additional expense to the state or local governing authority.10

Present law authorizes each of the clerks of the district courts to purchase an automobile for
office use after obtaining consent of the governing authority of the parish.
Present law authorizes the clerks of the district courts of Acadia Parish, Bienville Parish,
Bossier Parish, Caddo Parish, Cameron Parish, Claiborne Parish, DeSoto Parish, East
Feliciana Parish, Franklin Parish, Iberia Parish, Lincoln Parish, Morehouse Parish,
Natchitoches Parish, Ouachita Parish, Red River Parish, St. Charles Parish, St. Helena
Parish, St. Landry Parish, St. Tammany Parish, Tangipahoa Parish, Vermilion Parish,
Washington Parish, Webster Parish, West Baton Rouge Parish, and West Feliciana Parish
to receive an automobile expense allowance equal to 15% of their annual salary, provided
the clerk of court maintains $300,000 of automobile insurance per accident for bodily injury
and $100,000 of automobile insurance per accident for property damage.
Present law requires the expense allowance to come from surplus funds in each of the offices
of the clerks of court and at no additional expense to the state or local governing authority.
Proposed law retains present law and adds the clerks of the district courts of Allen Parish,
Assumption Parish, Beauregard Parish, St. Bernard Parish, Calcasieu Parish, Caldwell
Parish, Catahoula Parish, East Carroll Parish, Iberville Parish, Jefferson Davis Parish,
LaSalle Parish, St. Martin Parish, St. Mary Parish, Pointe Coupee Parish, St. Bernard Parish,
Union Parish and Vernon Parish. 
Effective August 1, 2014.
