LaFleur	SB No. 387
Present law authorizes local governmental subdivisions (parishes and municipalities) to
establish various special districts for a variety of purposes including road development,
recreation, economic development, water, sewerage, etc. In some cases, the governing
authority of the local governmental subdivision that created the special district serves as the
governing authority of the special district.
Proposed law provides that if an action of the special district's governing authority requires
the approval of the local governmental subdivision's governing authority and the local
governmental subdivision's governing authority also serves as the special district's governing
authority, the action of the special district's governing authority and the approval by the local
governmental subdivision's governing authority may occur in one meeting of the local
governmental subdivision's governing authority.
Proposed law limits its application to instances where the members of the local
governmental subdivision's governing authority and the special district's governing authority
are identical in number and in name.
Proposed law requires the governing authority of a local governmental subdivision and the
governing authority of a special district to independently follow any notice requirements
applicable to any actions taken by such entity.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
