DIGEST Gary Smith (SB 418) Present law requires the registration of every vehicle. Requires an individual applying for initial registration of a vehicle to provide or include a copy of a current and valid photo identification. Proposed law allows an individual who does not possess any of the required credentials to certify, on a form approved by the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, that he does not possess any of the credentials specified. Proposed law provides that the execution of a false, fraudulent, or altered certification may be punishable by a fine not to exceed $500 or by imprisonment not to exceed six months, or both. Effective August 1, 2014. (Amends R.S. 47:501(C)(1) and (2); adds R.S. 47:501(D)) Summary of Amendments Adopted by Senate Committee Amendments Proposed by Senate Committee on Transportation, Highways, and Public Works to the original bill 1.
