SCHOOLS. Provides that student athletes who participate in certain team sports for three
or more years shall be awarded athletic letters and related awards, certificates, and other
specified indicia. (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 17:176(F), relative to extracurricular activities; to provide relative to2
interscholastic athletics and the recognition and indicia related to student3
participation in certain high school interscholastic athletic activities; to provide for4
effectiveness; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 17:176(F) is hereby enacted to read as follows:7
ยง176. Extracurricular activities; interscholastic athletics; participation; athletic8
letters; standards; prohibitions; filming or videotaping; definitions9

F. Effective for the 2013-2014 school year and thereafter, any student11
who is a member of a team that participates in a high school interscholastic12
athletic activity for which participation letters are awarded shall be awarded13
his athletic letter and shall be entitled to receive any related award, certificate,14
patch, badge, and other indicia made available to a student athlete in15
recognition for such team participation, provided the student is a member of the16

Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not1
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature2
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If3
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become4
effective on the day following such approval.5

Proposed law provides that effective for the 2013-2014 school year and thereafter, any
student who is a member of a team that participates in a high school interscholastic athletic
activity for which participation letters are awarded shall be awarded his athletic letter and
shall be entitled to receive any related award, certificate, patch, badge, and other indicia
made available to a student athlete in recognition for such team participation, provided the
student is a member of the team for three or more years.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
