Louisiana 2014 2014 Regular Session

Louisiana Senate Bill SB58 Comm Sub / Analysis

Alario (SB 58)	Act No. 107
Prior law authorized individuals who are entitled to a tax refund, based upon their individual
income tax return, to designate that all or a portion of their refund be donated to the La.
Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for deposit into the La. Chapter of the
National Multiple Sclerosis Society Fund in the state treasury.
New law provides that donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society instead
of the La. Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. New law also changes the
name of the fund in the state treasury from the La. Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis
Society Fund to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Fund
Prior law authorized the House Committee on Ways and Means to request reports from the
La. Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society relative to its operations. Required
that the form and content of this report be prescribed by the chairman of the committee, and
contain, at a minimum, a detailed explanation of the revenues and expenditures, as well as
a description of the organization's activities. Authorized the committee to summon any
person employed by or associated with the La. Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis
Society to provide testimony with respect to its report.
New law retains prior law but adds authority for the Senate Committee on Revenue and
Fiscal Affairs to request this report. New law limits application of the report into the national
organization's activities in Louisiana.
New law provides for the transfer of monies from the La. Chapter of the National Multiple
Sclerosis Society Fund to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Fund on the effective date
of new law.
Effective August 1, 2014.
