BY SENATOR JOHN SMITH AND REPRESENTATIVE HILL 
LOCAL AGENCIES. Repeals special provisions relative to the Beauregard Electric
Cooperative. (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To repeal Part I-A of Chapter 4 of Title 12 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950,2
comprised of R.S. 12:431 and 431.1, relative to the Beauregard Electric Cooperative;3
to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related matters.4
Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. Part I-A of Chapter 4 of Title 12 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of7
1950, comprised of R.S. 12:431 and 431.1, is hereby repealed in its entirety. 8
Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not9
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature10
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If11
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become12
effective on the day following such approval.13 SB NO. 59

Present law provides general provisions for the organization of electric cooperatives.
Present law provides special provisions for the election of the board of directors of the
Beauregard Electric Cooperative.
Present law provides for the election of the directors from nine single member districts and
that each director is elected for a three-year term, with the exception of transitional terms.
Present law provides that each cooperative member may vote only for the candidates in the
district in which the member resides.
Present law specifies how any vacancy on the board of directors of the Beauregard Electric
Cooperative is to be filled.
Proposed law repeals present law relative to the Beauregard Electric Cooperative board of
directors' election and the filling of vacancies. 
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
