AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 33:9091.15(D)(1) and (3), relative to the Oak Island2
Neighborhood Improvement District; to provide for the governance; to provide for3
commission membership; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related4
matters.5
Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1. R.S. 33:9091.15(D)(1) and (3) are hereby amended and reenacted to read8
as follows: 9
ยง9091.15. Oak Island Neighborhood Improvement District10

D. Governance. (1) The district shall be governed by a six seven-member12
board of commissioners, referred to in this Section as the "commission," which shall13
be appointed by the board of directors of the Oak Island Neighborhood Association.14
These appointed commissioners shall not be members of the Oak Island15
Neighborhood Association board of directors.  The president of the Oak Island16
Neighborhood Association or his designee shall serve as a member and six17 SB NO. 590

additional members shall be appointed by the board of directors of the Oak1
Island Neighborhood Association.2

(3)(a) Commissioners appointed by the board of directors of the Oak4
Island Neighborhood Association shall serve two-year terms.5
(b) The president of the Oak Island Neighborhood Association or his6
designee shall serve during his term of office.7
(c) Any vacancy which occurs prior to the expiration of the terms for a8
commissioner shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term in the same9
manner as the original appointment. Commissioners shall be eligible for10
reappointment.11

Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not13
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature14
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If15
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become16
effective on the day following such approval.17

Present law provides for six members to serve as the board of commissioners of the Oak
Island Neighborhood Improvement District.
Proposed law increased the membership of the board to seven and adds the president of the
association to the board.
Present law prohibits commissioners of the Oak Island Neighborhood Improvement District
to serve as members of the Oak Island Neighborhood Association board of directors.
Proposed law provides for the president of the Oak Island Neighborhood Association or his
designee to serve as a member of the board of commissioners of the Oak Island
Neighborhood Improvement District.
Proposed law provides for the president of the Oak Island Neighborhood Association or his
