Proposed law authorizes the governing authority of a municipality having a population between
2,500 and 5,000 within a parish having a population between 200,000 and 250,000 based on the
latest federal decennial census to enact an ordinance limiting the number of terms of office any
elected official of the municipality may serve to two consecutive terms in the same office.
Proposed law provides for the ordinance to become effective only after the question of such term
limitation has been submitted to and approved by a majority of the qualified electors of the
municipality who voted on the proposition at a regularly scheduled primary or general election
held in accordance with the Louisiana Election Code.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time of gubernatorial action.
