Appel (SB 62)
Proposed law provides for a Louisiana common application for public colleges and universities
as follows:
(1)Requires the Board of Regents, in collaboration with the public postsecondary education
management boards, to provide for the development and implementation of a common
application whereby Louisiana residents and non-residents may apply to any public
college and university in the state.
(2)Provides that independent colleges and universities that are members of the La. Assoc. of
Independent Colleges and Universities may utilize the La. common application.
(3)Requires each public college and university to accept the Louisiana common application.
(4)Provides that a student may complete the application one time and submit to as many
institutions as he wishes to apply.
(5)Provides that applications may be submitted electronically or in a paper format, as
specified by the individual postsecondary institution.
(6)Allows each public college and university to impose its customary application fee and to
separately collect such supplemental documentation and information as it deems
necessary to properly evaluate a student's application.
Proposed law provides that if a student chooses to utilize the "Common Application" developed
and administered by the not-for-profit membership organization, The Common Application, Inc.,
a public college and university may accept such application in lieu of the La. common
application required by proposed law.
Proposed law provides that the Louisiana common application shall be fully implemented and
available to students applying for admission for the 2015-2016 academic year.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
