Present law provides that in the course of any investigation or hearing held by the commission, it
may administer oaths or affirmations, subpoena witnesses, compel their attendance, examine
them under oath or affirmation, and require the production of books, records, documents, or other
evidence deemed relevant or material to the investigation or hearing.
Proposed law provides that the discovery rules of the Code of Civil Procedure and Code of
Criminal Procedure shall apply to any investigation or hearing held pursuant to proposed law.
Effective August 1, 2014.
