Buffington (SB 659)
Proposed law requires the Louisiana Student Financial Assistance Commission (LSFAC) to
provide for and administer a scholarship program for students who meet all of the following
eligibility criteria:
(1)Are bona fide citizens and residents of the state of Louisiana.
(2)Desire to become doctors of medicine or dental surgery.
(3)Are acceptable for enrollment at one of the medical or dental schools of Louisiana State
University.
Proposed law requires LSFAC, in collaboration with the Louisiana State University Health
Sciences Center, to accept and review applications for such scholarship program and determine
the recipients of the scholarships.
Proposed law provides that implementation of this scholarship program is subject to available
public or private funding.
Proposed law requires LSFAC to prescribe such rules and regulations as it deems necessary and
proper in accordance with the APA.
Effective August 1, 2014.
