SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 103

LEGIS POWERS/FUNCTIONS.  Designates April 27, 2014, through May 4, 2014, as "Soil
and Water Stewardship Week" at the Louisiana Legislature.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To designate April 27, 2014, through May 4, 2014, as "Soil and Water Stewardship Week"2
at the Louisiana Legislature.3
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Legislature of Louisiana designates the4
week of April 27, 2014, through the week of May 4, 2014, as "Soil and Water Stewardship5
Week" at the Louisiana Legislature and urges all Louisiana citizens to recognize and honor6
the significance of our soil and water resources; and7
WHEREAS, the landscape of Louisiana reflects productive farm and grasslands,8
stately forests, meandering streams and bayous, thriving wetlands, abundant wildlife, and9
rural and urban communities; and10
WHEREAS, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the soil from which we grow our11
food, fiber, and forest products, and the diverse habitat supporting a myriad of wildlife, all12
contribute to Louisiana's quality of life and prosperity; and13
WHEREAS, soil and water are two of the most essential natural resources, and the14
quality of life for all of our citizens depends on wise stewardship of our soil and water15
resources; and16
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Agriculture, natural resources17
conservation service, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, the State Soil18 SCR NO. 103

and Water Conservation Commission, and local soil and water conservation districts work1
in partnership to help Louisiana's private landowners and managers conserve and protect2
soil, water, and our other natural resources; and3
WHEREAS, Louisiana's forty-four soil and water conservation districts, administered4
by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, office of soil and water conservation, work5
hand-in-hand with the United States Department of Agriculture, natural resources6
conservation service to deliver conservation programs to private landowners and managers7
and educate citizens of all ages about conserving soil and water resources.8
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana fully appreciates9
the value of soil and water resources to the citizens of Louisiana, and desiring to honor those10
who protect it, does hereby proclaim April 27 through May 4, 2014, as "Soil and Water11
Stewardship Week" at the Louisiana Legislature, urging our citizens to recognize the12
significance of our soil and water resources, commending our conservation partnership in13
their efforts to help citizens preserve these resources for future generations to come.14
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the15
commissioner of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry.16
