SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 129
BY SENATOR ALARIO 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Cheryl Gaudin on her retirement and for forty-two years
of meritorious and dedicated service.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Cheryl Elliott Gaudin, longtime legislative assistant to Senate President John2
A. Alario Jr., for her distinguished career and to congratulate her upon the occasion3
of her retirement after forty-two years of outstanding public service to the state of4
Louisiana.5
WHEREAS, Cheryl Gaudin began her career with President John Alario during his6
first legislative term in District 83 of the House of Representatives that began in January7
1972; and8
WHEREAS, as a loyal and dedicated assistant, Cheryl has always been willing to go9
the extra mile and to share her knowledge and expertise with others, and has always10
conducted herself in the most adept, concise, and compassionate manner in her efforts to11
assist the constituency of the district; and12
WHEREAS, President Alario attributes Cheryl's focus, dedication to the task at hand,13
and professional standard of excellence as essential elements of their working relationship14
that have enabled him to carry out his official responsibilities in the most efficient manner15
possible; and16
WHEREAS, throughout these four decades, Cheryl has provided the highest quality17

WHEREAS, during the aftermath of hurricanes or other devastating emergencies her1
tireless spirit provided a calming demeanor and a helpful hand to assist the countless2
families adversely affected by those events; and3
WHEREAS, Cheryl Gaudin exemplifies all of the finest qualities of a proficient4
public servant often at the sacrifice of her family time and personal activities; and5
WHEREAS, Cheryl has the distinction of being the longest-serving legislative6
assistant and with term limits in place this accomplishment may never be exceeded; and7
WHEREAS, her numerous accomplishments and contributions will long be8
remembered by those people she helped along the way; and9
WHEREAS, Cheryl looks forward to her retirement along with her husband, Calvin,10
who has also recently retired and with whom she will soon celebrate their forty-second11
wedding anniversary; and12
WHEREAS, keeping Cheryl busy in her retirement will be the loves of her life, her13
four young grandchildren, Sophia and Dominick Landry, and Brad and Avery Darda, and14
her daughters and her sons-in-law, Alicia and Don Landry, and Lauren and Brad Darda; and15
WHEREAS, a passionate New Orleans Saints and LSU football fan with a penchant16
for country music and theater, she looks forward to trips to her favorite beaches, bed and17
breakfast inns, and travels along the eastern coast with friends that include Charlene Perez,18
craft shows, shopping excursions with her sisters, Phyllis Wiseman and Michelle Verges,19
along with afternoons filled with baking cookies and working on "Granna" craft projects20
with her grandchildren; and21
WHEREAS, as her tenure in state service draws to a close in 2014, after such highly22
productive service to the citizens of House of Representatives District 83, Senate District 8,23
and the entire state of Louisiana, Cheryl looks forward to her time with family and friends,24
but will always carry fond memories of her time at the State Capitol.25
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby26
commend Cheryl Elliott Gaudin for her forty-two years of service as legislative assistant to27
The Honorable John A. Alario Jr., and does hereby extend its best wishes to her and her28
family for continued good health and happiness in all future endeavors.29
