SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 137
BY SENATOR MILLS 
SCHOOLS. Requests DHH to study the most effective means to ensure the proper
utilization of inhalers by school nurses and report to the Senate and House Committees on
Health and Welfare.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To urge and request the Department of Health and Hospitals to study the most effective2
means to ensure the proper utilization of inhalers by school nurses within schools in3
Louisiana and to report its findings to the Senate Committee on Health and Welfare4
and the House Committee on Health and Welfare.5
WHEREAS, the use of inhalers by students in Louisiana schools has risen6
dramatically over the last few years; and7
WHEREAS, certain Louisiana schools have experienced students with increased8
breathing problems; and9
WHEREAS, the Legislature of Louisiana finds that ensuring the proper utilization10
of inhalers in Louisiana schools by school nurses is an important public health priority for11
the state.12
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby13
urge and request the Department of Health and Hospitals to study the most effective means14
to ensure the proper utilization of inhalers by school nurses in Louisiana schools and to15
report its findings to the Senate Committee on Health and Welfare and the House Committee16
on Health and Welfare.17
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in conducting the study, the department may18 SCR NO. 137

engage, collaborate with, and obtain information and perspective from stakeholder groups,1
including but not limited to the following:2
(1)Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group.3
(2)Louisiana State Medical Society.4
(3)Louisiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.5
(4)Louisiana State Board of Nursing.6
(5)Louisiana Department of Education.7
(6)Louisiana School Nurses Organization.8
(7)Louisiana State Nurses Association.9
(8)Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the department shall provide the findings of this11
study in the form of a written report to the Senate Committee on Health and Welfare and the12
House Committee on Health and Welfare on or before February 1, 2015.13
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the14
secretary of the Department of Health and Hospitals and the state superintendent of15
education.16
