SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 143
BY SENATOR GARY SMITH AND REPRESENTATIVE MILLER 
CONDOLENCES. Expresses condolences on the passing of Stephen M. "Coach" Crovetto.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of2
Stephen M. "Coach" Crovetto.3
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana4
learned of the death of Stephen M. "Coach" Crovetto on Friday, April 25, 2014, at the age5
of sixty-three; and6
WHEREAS, Mr. Crovetto was a native of Westwego and a resident of Luling; and7
WHEREAS, he graduated from Archbishop Shaw High School in Marrero in 19698
and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana9
in 1974; and10
WHEREAS, he began his career as a teacher and coach at Shaw High School from11
1974 to 1977 where he taught physical science, and served as the offensive coordinator for12
the football team as well as the head track coach; and13
WHEREAS, from 1977 to 1978, he taught biology at West Jefferson High School14
and coached the football team's offense, defense, and kicking team; and15
WHEREAS, from 1978 to 1983, Mr. Crovetto taught physical science, biology, and16
chemistry at Hahnville High School, was the athletic director and the head football coach,17
and was named Coach of the Year for the 1980-1981 season; and18 SCR NO. 143

WHEREAS, as the head football coach for the Hahnville High School Tigers, he led1
the team in the last game played at the old stadium, had an undefeated season in 1980, and2
returned as the offensive coordinator in 1994 and played an integral role in the Tigers3
becoming the undefeated District 5A state champions; and4
WHEREAS, from 1983 to 1987, he was the offensive coordinator of the Nicholls5
State University Colonels football team, and was instrumental in the Colonels becoming the6
Gulf Star Conference champions in 1984; and7
WHEREAS, from 1987 to 1994, Mr. Crovetto taught physical science, was the head8
football coach, and the athletic director at H. L. Bourgeois High School, and during his9
tenure there was named Coach of the Year in 1987 and 1991, and was nominated for Teacher10
of the Year from 1987 to 1990; and11
WHEREAS, Mr. Crovetto was a teacher and coach in the St. Charles Parish school12
system for twenty-one and one half years; and13
WHEREAS, he organized a campaign to pass a millage for the construction of the14
current Hahnville High School stadium and field houses, and was instrumental in15
implementing the "wild card" system into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association16
football playoff competitions; and17
WHEREAS, Mr. Crovetto was a member of the St. Charles Parish School Board18
from 1999 to 2010, and served as the board president for two terms in 2001 and 2009; and19
WHEREAS, after retiring from teaching and coaching, Mr. Crovetto focused on his20
small business, Cro & Associates, Inc., that handled local real estate dealings and contracted21
with parish governments for weed control; and22
WHEREAS, as a teacher, coach, school board member, and community activist, Mr.23
Crovetto was a consummate leader in his community and will be sorely missed; and24
WHEREAS, he is survived by his loving wife, Stacy Boudreaux Crovetto, and two25
children, Stevie Michelle and Giuseppe Nolman Crovetto; and26
WHEREAS, he was a gentleman who was admired by all whose lives he touched,27
and who leaves behind a rich and unique legacy; and28
WHEREAS, although the death of Stephen M. "Coach" Crovetto has left a29
tremendous void in his community, his memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts30 SCR NO. 143

of all who knew and loved him.1
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby2
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Stephen M. "Coach" Crovetto,3
does hereby recognize and record for posterity his accomplishments and contributions, and4
does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that he will forever bring5
to his family, friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.6
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the7
family of Stephen M. "Coach" Crovetto.8
