SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 150
BY SENATOR LONG AND REPRESENTATI VES BROWN AND COX 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Lionel Washington on being named to the 2014
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Lionel Washington on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame2
Induction Class.3
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and Legislature of Louisiana have4
learned of the prestigious honor bestowed upon Lionel Washington on his induction in the5
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame; and6
WHEREAS, the inductees are chosen after extensive deliberations by an expert panel7
of Louisiana Sports Writers' Association members from across the state who annually8
consider more than one hundred twenty nominees for this honor; and9
WHEREAS, Lionel Washington was born on October 21, 1960, and is a native of10
Lutcher, Louisiana; and11
WHEREAS, the former Tulane University fourth-round draft pick of the St. Louis12
Cardinals in 1985, carved out a productive and impressive fifteen year National Football13
League career with the Cardinals, Los Angeles Raiders, Oakland Raiders and Denver14
Broncos; and15
WHEREAS, he played in two hundred and four games and started one hundred sixty-16
five games during his career, and he intercepted thirty-seven passes and returned four of17
those for touchdowns; and18 SCR NO. 150

WHEREAS, his career high was eight interceptions as a rookie in 1983, and he1
intercepted at least three passes five times in his career; and2
WHEREAS, Washington also had at least one interception in thirteen of his fifteen3
seasons; and4
WHEREAS, he coached with the Green Bay Packers and just ended his second5
season as co-defensive coordinator at Tulane University, helping the Green Wave to a New6
Orleans Bowl bid in 2013; and7
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,8
and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication9
of extraordinary men like Lionel Washington who strive to show others through hard work10
and dedication that all dreams are possible.11
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby12
commend and congratulate Lionel Washington on his impressive and successful football13
career and on being named as an inductee to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.14
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to15
Lionel Washington.16
