SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 150

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Lionel Washington on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame
Induction Class.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and Legislature of Louisiana have
learned of the prestigious honor bestowed upon Lionel Washington on his induction in the
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, the inductees are chosen after extensive deliberations by an expert panel
of Louisiana Sports Writers' Association members from across the state who annually
consider more than one hundred twenty nominees for this honor; and
WHEREAS, Lionel Washington was born on October 21, 1960, and is a native of
Lutcher, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the former Tulane University fourth-round draft pick of the St. Louis
Cardinals in 1985, carved out a productive and impressive fifteen year National Football
League career with the Cardinals, Los Angeles Raiders, Oakland Raiders, and Denver
Broncos; and
WHEREAS, he played in two hundred and four games and started one hundred sixty-
five games during his career, and he intercepted thirty-seven passes and returned four of
those for touchdowns; and
WHEREAS, his career high was eight interceptions as a rookie in 1983, and he
intercepted at least three passes five times in his career; and
WHEREAS, Washington also had at least one interception in thirteen of his fifteen
seasons; and
WHEREAS, he coached with the Green Bay Packers and just ended his second
season as co-defensive coordinator at Tulane University, helping the Green Wave to a New
Orleans Bowl bid in 2013; and SCR NO. 150	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication
of extraordinary men like Lionel Washington who strive to show others through hard work
and dedication that all dreams are possible.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate Lionel Washington on his impressive and successful football
career and on being named as an inductee to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Lionel Washington.
