SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 156
BY SENATOR LONG AND REPRESENTATI VES BROWN AND COX 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Venus Lacy on being named to the 2014 Louisiana
Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Venus Lacy on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame2
Induction Class.3
WHEREAS, each year Louisiana's sports writers select a limited number of athletes,4
past or present, who have become figures of national and international renown to be5
regarded as the state's immortals in the spheres of athletes and enshrined in the Louisiana6
Sports Hall of Fame; and7
WHEREAS, the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Class includes former8
Louisiana Tech basketball start Venus Lacy; and9
WHEREAS, after a successful start to her career at Brainerd High School, in10
Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she was named Miss Basketball, she played for Old11
Dominion University; and12
WHEREAS, after her freshman year, she transferred to Louisiana Tech University,13
where she was a starting center for the Lady Techsters from 1988 to 1990 and was part of14
the national championship team that won the NCAA title in 1988; and15
WHEREAS, during her successful career as a Lady Techster, she was twice named16
Player of the Year for both the American South Conference and for the state of Louisiana;17

WHEREAS, she maintains the top scoring average in Tech basketball history and is1
in the top five for career points, field goals made, field goals attempted, and blocked shots;2
and3
WHEREAS, before her retirement from basketball in 1998, Ms. Lacy played on the4
1996 U.S. Olympic team that won a gold medal, played in the American Basketball League,5
and spent two seasons with the New York Liberty of the Women's National Basketball6
Association; and7
WHEREAS, because of her long and distinguished career on the basketball court,8
Venus Lacy possesses the talents and skills worthy of being named to the Louisiana Sports9
Hall of Fame. 10
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby11
commend and congratulate Venus Lacy on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall12
of Fame Induction Class.13
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to14
Venus Lacy.15
