GERMAIN, STOKES, TALBOT, THIBAUT, THIERRY, THOMPSON, WHITNEY, ALFRED WILLIAMS, PATRICK WI LLIAMS, WILLMOTT AND WOODRUFF A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the passing of former Louisiana state representative, Terry Wayne Gee Sr. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of one of its former colleagues, Honorable Terry Wayne Gee Sr., on May 19, 2014, at the age of seventy-three; and WHEREAS, Terry Wayne Gee Sr. was born on September 21, 1940, to parents, Garland and the former Cletus Grimes Gee of Natchez, Mississippi; and WHEREAS, he graduated from Natchez High School, obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in personnel management and public relations from Louisiana Tech University, and received a master's degree in business from Loyola University; and WHEREAS, he was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 1980 and served the citizens of District No. 86 until 1992; and SCR NO. 174 ENROLLED Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, Terry Gee was a member of the Ways and Means, Commerce, and Labor committees during his tenure in the Louisiana House of Representatives and authored legislation to repeal the Louisiana prevailing wage law in order to lower construction costs on state projects; and WHEREAS, he was part of a group of legislators who declared their independence of gubernatorial direction over the House of Representatives and pushed through six hundred million dollars in spending cuts to the state budget; and WHEREAS, Terry Gee joined nine legislative colleagues in filing suit against Governor Edwards in a bid to halt runaway state spending and were joined by several trade associations and contractors; and WHEREAS, he was instrumental in rewriting laws which brought balance to labor and management negotiations in Louisiana and fought to bring fiscal sanity to the annual budget wars during the legislative sessions; and WHEREAS, Terry Gee's skill, knowledge, and overriding sense of fairness made him popular with many elements of the political world, and his advice and guidance was sought by leaders in Washington as well as Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, he was able to move from faction to faction as he sought to be fair to everyone and was trusted by Democrats and Republicans to bring balance to all political considerations; and WHEREAS, he gained experience in the oil and gas industry as a managing partner of Resource Consultants, Limited, for nine years and served as the assistant to the chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Louisiana Power and Light for eleven years; and WHEREAS, Terry Gee was appointed by Governor Mike Foster to oversee the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port, the deep water oil port for offloading super tankers and sending crude to refineries across the United States, and served as its executive director from 1996 to 2004; and WHEREAS, in 2005, he was named the assistant vice president of capital sourcing of Ecoloclean Industries due to his working knowledge of government policies and regulations in Louisiana; and SCR NO. 174 ENROLLED Page 3 of 3 WHEREAS, Terry Gee was an affable gentleman, kind and considerate, who possessed an indomitable spirit; he was open and honest; a consummate man of the people who never met a stranger; a vibrant human being with an endearing compassion for those he represented; and WHEREAS, he is survived by his close companion of over forty years, Gale Stamper; a son, Terry Gee Jr.; a daughter, Regina Gee; two siblings, Kenny Gee and Brenda Barker; his former wife, Wanda Webb Gee; and four grandchildren; and WHEREAS, in death, Terry Wayne Gee Sr. leaves a tremendous void in his community and in this state, however, he also leaves a rich and unique legacy of public service in the annals of Louisiana's political history, and he shall remain as a fond remembrance in the hearts of all who knew him. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of former state representative, Honorable Terry Wayne Gee Sr., and does hereby record for posterity the enduring appreciation of the citizens of Louisiana for his outstanding contributions and achievements, particularly during his tenure as a distinguished member of the Louisiana House of Representatives.
