SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 23

CONDOLENCES.  Expresses condolences upon the death of New Orleans television
personality and legend, Frank Davis.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the2
passing of New Orleans television personality and legend, Frank Davis. 3
WHEREAS, Frank Davis will be remembered best for his jovial tag line from his4
television broadcasts, "Naturally N'Awlins", with which he concluded each of his interviews;5
and6
WHEREAS, Frank Davis was a WWL radio and television star for almost four7
decades, from 1974 until his health-related retirement in 2011; and8
WHEREAS, he was known for his outdoor acumen, culinary skills, love of Carnival,9
Crescent City accent, and affable demeanor; and10
WHEREAS, he was a bonafide New Orleanian born on North Tonti Street in 194311
and was educated at St. Joseph Elementary School, Sacred Heart of Jesus High School, and12
Louisiana State University in New Orleans, now known as the University of New Orleans;13
and14
WHEREAS, he later concluded his education at Charity Hospital where he studied15
to become an X-ray technician; and 16
WHEREAS, Frank Davis married his beloved wife, Mary Clare, in 1968, while17
serving a stint in the Louisiana National Guard; and18 SCR NO. 23

WHEREAS, Frank Davis' broadcast career began while working in public relations1
with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries where a WWL radio producer2
noticed his outdoorsman expertise and offered him weekend work at the station, hosting live3
sportsman's talk shows; and4
WHEREAS, Frank Davis engulfed himself so much in his broadcasts that the5
broadcasts ranged from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, never leaving him6
at a loss for words; and7
WHEREAS, he was adored by all he encountered, both in person and through radio8
and television, because he was a part of the heart of New Orleans; and9
WHEREAS, his former coworkers stated his jocular, energetic, on-air personality10
was absolutely genuine because he loved to make people smile, laugh and was simply fun11
to be around; and12
WHEREAS, he never missed one Mardi Gras in thirty years and always celebrated13
the things that were unique in New Orleans because he believed the city had a very special14
and unique culture, and he always reminded everyone what it was like to be "Naturally15
N'Awlins"; and 16
WHEREAS, he was the perfect guide to both the secret wetland fishing locations and17
the proper use of a cast iron skillet; and 18
WHEREAS, Frank Davis had a passion for cooking and feeding those in need, which19
was exemplified during hurricanes when he set up his studio kitchen to feed the cast and20
crew during the long hours of storm coverage; and21
WHEREAS, Frank Davis had become a leader in the region's passion for Creole22
cooking by the time he retired in 2011, hosted a Tuesday morning cooking demonstration23
with Mary Clare, and wrote five cookbooks; and 24
WHEREAS, he was truly an honorable man who committed his life to his hometown25
and his neighbors across the city; and26
WHEREAS, Frank Davis spent his last glorious days in Texas where he and his wife27
relocated to be closer to his daughter, Amanda, and grandchildren; however, he certainly did28
not want to leave his home in Slidell; and 29
WHEREAS, he died at the age of seventy-one and is survived by his wife, Mary30 SCR NO. 23

Clare Bruscato Davis; mother, Rosina Sellier Davis; sister, Rosina Marie Davis Smith;1
daughter, Amanda Clare Davis Landry; and four precious grandchildren:  Elisabeth Clare2
Davis, Matthew Davis Landry, Zachary Joseph Landry, and Benjamin Hughes Landry. 3
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby4
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the passing of New Orleans television5
personality and legend, Frank Davis.6
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mary7
Clare Bruscato Davis, Rosina Sellier Davis, and Amanda Clare Davis Landry.8
