SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 50
BY SENATOR CROWE AND REPRESENTATI VES CROMER AND PEARSON 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the Salmen High School Lady Spartan basketball team
for winning its second consecutive state championship in Class 4A.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend and congratulate the Salmen High School of Slidell Lady Spartan basketball2
team on winning its second consecutive Class 4A state championship.3
WHEREAS, the top-seeded Salmen High School Lady Spartans basketball team won4
the Class 4A state title for the second year in a row prevailing against Warren Easton Charter5
High School from New Orleans, the second-seed in the state playoffs, as the teams clashed6
in the Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles; and7
WHEREAS, the Lady Spartans were led in the championship game by two girls, both8
named Brown: Megan, a senior, and Kalani, a junior, combined to provide both timely9
offense and smothering defense to overcome a halftime deficit to Easton of thirty-one to10
twenty-four; and 11
WHEREAS, the championship game began as the challengers came out early hitting12
four three pointers in the first period and dominating as the half ended, but Salmen was not13
to be denied; and14
WHEREAS, in the second quarter Kalani Brown stepped up her offensive game,15
scoring seven points in a five minute stretch, cutting the Eagles lead at halftime to seven and16
setting the stage for a dramatic second half comeback sparked by both offensive and17
defensive brilliance; and18 SCR NO. 50

WHEREAS, Easton continued to lead entering the fourth period by forty to thirty-1
seven, but Salmen went on an amazing 11-0 run, capped by a three-pointer by Megan Brown2
with 3:12 left in the game; and3
WHEREAS, after entering the second half trailing by seven, the Lady Spartans relied4
on their defense to keep the Easton Eagles at bay while putting on an offensive show on their5
end of the court; and6
WHEREAS, as the Lady Spartans led the Eagles in fourth quarter scoring with7
Megan scoring twelve of her game-high twenty-one points, which earned her Most8
Outstanding Player honors, and led her team to the championship game victory; and 9
WHEREAS, Easton's three-point shooting, which gave them their lead through three10
quarters of play, in the final period met head-on with Salmen center Kalani who finished the11
game with thirteen points, but, perhaps, more importantly twelve rebounds and six blocked12
shots, sealing the Eagles' fate with a blazing defensive effort; and13
WHEREAS, the Lady Spartans garnered their second consecutive Class 4A girls14
basketball championship by a score of fifty-four to forty-eight; and15
WHEREAS, speaking of his team having trailed Warren Easton through three16
quarters, yet managing to prevail in the end, coach Kevin Anderson stated: "It was about17
determination and never giving up and the girls got it done."18
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby19
commend and congratulate the Salmen High School of Slidell Lady Spartan basketball team20
on winning its second consecutive Class 4A state championship.21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the22
principal of Salmen High School of Slidell, Terri Wortman.23
