SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 53

HEALTH/HOSPITALS DEPT. Requests the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
to require an annual one hour of continuing education on end of life care for all disciplines
licensed by the board.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To urge and request the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners to require an annual2
one hour of continuing education on end of life care for all disciplines licensed by3
the board.4
WHEREAS, in 2012 an estimated one million five hundred thousand to one million5
six hundred thousand patients received services from hospice; and6
WHEREAS, over the past decade, the hospice industry has been marked by7
substantial growth in the number of hospice programs and patients served; and8
WHEREAS, as the average life span in the United States has increased so has the9
number of individuals who die of chronic progressive diseases that require longer term and10
more sustained care; and11
WHEREAS, according to 2012 Medicare information, nearly half of all dying12
Louisianians received hospice care.13
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby14
urge and request the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners to require an annual one15
hour of continuing education on end of life care for all disciplines licensed by the board16
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the17
executive director of the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.18 SCR NO. 53
