SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 58
BY SENATOR GALLOT AND REPRESENTATIVE SHADOIN
COMMENDATIONS. Commends Tom Thompson on his retirement and for 20 years of
meritorious and dedicated service as the chairman of Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District
No. 1.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Tom Thompson on his retirement and for twenty years of meritorious and2
dedicated service as the chairman of Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District No. 1.3
WHEREAS, the Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 was created for the4
citizens of Lincoln Parish in 1991; and5
WHEREAS, it was comprised of a group of dedicated citizens who volunteered their6
time and worked together as a team to assist others in times of trouble; and7
WHEREAS, they were described as "neighbors helping neighbors" and it was the8
active volunteers who dedicated many hours annually to training and emergency response,9
and who are responsible for the successful creation of Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District10
No. 1; and11
WHEREAS, Tom Thompson was one of those citizens; and12
WHEREAS, he lived in Ruston for over twenty-five years and has been married to13
his wife, Margaret, for fifty-one years; and14
WHEREAS, they have two sons, Douglas and Daniel; and15
WHEREAS, as an active member of Temple Baptist Church, Mr. Thompson served16
as its deacon and as a Sunday school teacher; and17
WHEREAS, under his leadership Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 grew18 SCR NO. 58

from a volunteer team of firefighters with minimum resources to a full-time department1
operating out of a building that is the official emergency operations center for Lincoln2
Parish; and3
WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson has raised more than eight million dollars for the fire4
protection district during his twenty years at its helm; and5
WHEREAS, he is one of the finest public servants in the history of Louisiana and a6
gentleman whose dedicated and highly productive service has forever changed Ruston and7
Lincoln Parish for the better; and8
WHEREAS, the strength of Louisiana's communities and the overall vitality of9
American society depend in great measure upon the intelligence and talent of people like10
Tom Thompson; and11
WHEREAS, Tom Thompson will always remain an inspiration to his fellow citizens12
for the vital contributions he has made during his twenty years as the chairman of Lincoln13
Parish Fire Protection District No. 1, and he merits the highest commendation and most14
sincere congratulations for his exemplary term of service and for the tremendous pride,15
honor, and joy that he brings to all who know him.16
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby17
commend Tom Thompson upon his retirement as chairman of Lincoln Parish Fire Protection18
District No. 1, hereby recognizes and records for posterity the deep and abiding appreciation19
of his fellow citizens for his exemplary term of public service and his friendship, and hereby20
extends to him best wishes for success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Tom22
Thompson.23
