Requests DOTD to take action to provide greater safety to the motoring public, to move traffic more efficiently, and to minimize traffic accidents at the intersection of Cornerview Road and LA 73 and on LA 22 between I-10 and LA 70 in Ascension Parish. A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to take action to2 provide greater safety to the motoring public, to move traffic more efficiently, and3 to minimize traffic accidents at the intersection of Cornerview Road and Louisiana4 Highway 73 and on Louisiana Highway 22 between Interstate Highway 10 and5 Louisiana Highway 70 in Ascension Parish.6 WHEREAS, the intersection of Cornerview Road and Louisiana Highway 73 in7 Ascension Parish is controlled by a stop sign; and8 WHEREAS, the intersection of Cornerview Road and Louisiana Highway 73 has9 experienced increased heavy traffic due to economic development connected with chemical10 plants and other commerce along the Mississippi River and residential growth; and11 WHEREAS, vehicles have severe difficulties traversing the intersection; and12 WHEREAS, accidents at the intersection have increased in the last year; and13 WHEREAS, Louisiana Highway 22 between Interstate Highway 10 and Louisiana14 Highway 70, approaching the Sunshine Bridge, in Ascension Parish, has experienced15 increased traffic; and16 WHEREAS, portions of Louisiana Highway 22 are four lanes but transition to two17 lanes and create a bottleneck in front of businesses for patrons traveling on Louisiana18 SCR NO. 93 SLS 14RS-2701 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 Highway 22 toward Louisiana Highway 70 and making left turns, resulting in vehicles that1 continue traveling on Louisiana Highway 22 to cross the Sunshine Bridge driving upon the2 shoulder to proceed past stopped, left-turning vehicles; and3 WHEREAS, there is a neutral ground on Louisiana Highway 22 that may allow for4 construction of turn lanes or three-lanes; and 5 WHEREAS, the department needs to take action to provide greater safety to the6 motoring public, to move traffic more efficiently, and to minimize traffic accidents at the7 intersection of Cornerview Road and Louisiana Highway 73 and on Louisiana Highway 228 between Interstate Highway 10 and Louisiana Highway 70 in Ascension Parish.9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby10 request the Department of Transportation and Development to take action to provide greater11 safety to the motoring public, to move traffic more efficiently, and to minimize traffic12 accidents at the intersection of Cornerview Road and Louisiana Highway 73 and on13 Louisiana Highway 22 between Interstate Highway 10 and Louisiana Highway 70 in14 Ascension Parish.15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the secretary of the Department of16 Transportation and Development shall submit a written report to the House and Senate17 committees on transportation, highways, and public works on the action taken by the18 department to provide greater safety to the motoring public, to move traffic more efficiently,19 and to minimize traffic accidents at the intersection of Cornerview Road and Louisiana20 Highway 73 and on Louisiana Highway 22 between Interstate Highway 10 and Louisiana21 Highway 70 in Ascension Parish not later than August 1, 2014. 22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the23 secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.24 SCR NO. 93 SLS 14RS-2701 ORIGINAL Page 3 of 3 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Sharon F.
