Expresses condolences upon the death of U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant Derek Langford. A RESOLUTION1 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to the2 family of United States Air Force Technical Sergeant Derek Langford upon his death3 while serving in his country's armed forces.4 WHEREAS, Derek Langford was a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, and graduated5 from Ruston High School where he was a member of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training6 Corps program; and7 WHEREAS, Derek Langford enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as soon as he completed8 high school, traveling to Lackland Air Base for his basic training and technical school before9 being stationed at Tyndall Air Base as a telementry apprentice; and10 WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford cross trained in 2004, before proceeding11 to Creech Air Base in Nevada, where he served as a Communications Maintainer prior to his12 first deployment to Afghanistan; and13 WHEREAS, during his thirteen year career in the U.S. Air Force, Technical Sergeant14 Langford would be deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom twice and to Operation Iraqi15 Freedom once, bravely serving in the combat theaters and helping his unit accomplish its16 mission; and17 WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford would also serve a tour of duty in South18 SR NO. 101 SLS 14RS-2453 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 Korea at Kunsan Air Base where he specialized as a Cyber Transport Technician; and1 WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford eventually returned to Creech Air Base2 where he was assigned to the 799 th Air Base Group and provided communications support3 for an additional eight years of loyal and steadfast service to his country; and4 WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford would continue his education while5 serving in the military, always striving to be the best noncommissioned officer that he could6 be; and7 WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford's greatest joy in life was his daughter,8 Jordan, and she soon became the major focus of his life; and9 WHEREAS, on August 16, 2013, thirty-one year old Technical Sergeant Langford10 headed into the desert to test-drive his newly purchased 1992 GMC four-wheeler against the11 severe Nevada environment; and12 WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford, with all of his hopes, dreams and plans13 ahead of him, would tragically never return from that trip and his loss would soon be felt by14 all who knew and loved him, especially his little girl, Jordan, who would never again see her15 father, but will always remember the feel of his loving touch.16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana17 does hereby express its deepest and most profound condolences to the family, friends and18 loved ones of U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant Derek Langford for the loss they have19 suffered and for the sacrifice and service he gave to his country.20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to21 Technical Sergeant Langford's family.22 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Heyward Jeffers.
