Recognizes May 9, 2014, as Child Care Provider Appreciation Day. A RESOLUTION1 To recognize May 9, 2014, as Child Care Provider Appreciation Day.2 WHEREAS, the second Sunday in May has long been recognized as the day to honor3 mothers and their commitment to children; and4 WHEREAS, the Friday before Mother's Day, May 9, 2014, is Child Care Provider5 Appreciation Day, a special day to recognize child care providers, teachers, school-age6 program staff, child care center directors and staff, and all those who work with children and7 are responsible for their education and care; and8 WHEREAS, it is estimated that nearly eleven million children under age five are9 cared for by 2.8 million child care providers in the United States; and10 WHEREAS, Child Care Provider Appreciation Day began in 1996 by a group of11 volunteers in New Jersey who saw the need to recognize the tireless efforts of providers who12 care for children of working parents; and 13 WHEREAS, momentum and support for this event has grown each year and14 recognition presently includes individuals and government organizations throughout North15 America, Europe, and Asia; and16 WHEREAS, of the twenty million children under age five in America, nearly eleven17 million are in some form of childcare setting; and 18 SR NO. 117 SLS 14RS-3539 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, the Child Care Association of Louisiana, a statewide, nonprofit1 organization represents the interests of licensed childcare providers and children they serve,2 and wholeheartedly endorses and promotes the Child Care Provider Appreciation Day; and3 WHEREAS, the mission of the Child Care Association of Louisiana is to educate,4 advocate, and collaborate to build a premier, proactive childcare industry for Louisiana5 families; and6 WHEREAS, by calling attention to the importance of high quality child care services7 for all children and families within the state, the Child Care Association of Louisiana and8 other advocacy organizations hope to improve the quality and availability of such services;9 and10 WHEREAS, our future depends on the quality of the early childhood experiences11 provided to young children today, high quality early childcare services represent a worthy12 commitment to our children's future; and13 WHEREAS, "Every child should have access to a high quality early childhood14 educational program and be prepared to enter kindergarten ready to learn" says Alan Young,15 the President of the Child Care Association of Louisiana.16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana17 does hereby recognize May 9, 2014, as Child Care Provider Appreciation Day in the state18 of Louisiana and urge all citizens to recognize licensed childcare providers for their19 important work.20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to21 Alan Young, President of the Child Care Association of Louisiana and Cindy Bishop,22 Executive Director of the Child Care Association of Louisiana.23 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Jerry J.
