SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12
BY SENATOR CROWE 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Isabel Caballero of Slidell upon being named one of the
top youth volunteers in Louisiana for 2014.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Isabel Caballero of Slidell upon being honored by the Prudential Spirit of2
Community Awards as one of the top youth volunteers in Louisiana for 2014.3
WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community awards are America's largest youth4
recognition program based solely on volunteer service and are given in conjunction with the5
National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP); and6
WHEREAS, this recognition by Prudential and the NASSP was first awarded in 19957
and encourage participation in nominating teens in middle and high school by Girl Scouts8
and Boy Scouts of America, Red Cross chapters, 4-H organizations, as well as all middle and9
high schools in the country; and 10
WHEREAS, this award, now in its nineteenth year, recognizes students who involve11
themselves in volunteer service, thus bringing positive change to their communities; and12
WHEREAS, at fourteen, Isabel is a freshman at Mount Carmel Academy in New13
Orleans where she has been on the honor roll and where, beyond her volunteer activities in14
support of cancer research, she is also active in Junior Achievement; and15
WHEREAS, Isabel founded the "Care and Cure Foundation", a nonprofit16
organization that has raised more than one thousand dollars to benefit the American17
Association of Cancer Research; and18 SR NO. 12

WHEREAS, Isabel chose working to raise money to be donated to cancer research1
as a way of honoring her grandmother, Shanette Bordelon Elder, who succumbed to cancer2
in February 2011 after bouts with both breast and lung cancer; and3
WHEREAS, Isabel has made and sold rainbow bracelets to raise money for her4
foundation, emphasizing the necessity for curing all forms of cancer through research5
concentrated on an overall cure; and6
WHEREAS, Isabel, by way of her colorful bracelets, encourages everyone to be7
"colorful for the cure" of cancer in all its forms.8
 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana9
does hereby commend Isabel Caballero of Slidell on being named a distinguished finalist for10
the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, recognizing her as one of the top youth11
volunteers in Louisiana for 2014. 12
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Isabel13
Caballero, a student at Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans, and a resident of Slidell,14
Louisiana.15
