SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 145
BY SENATOR DONAHUE 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the Mandeville Republican Women on 30 years of
volunteer public service both locally and throughout the state.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Mandeville Republican Women on thirty years of volunteer public service2
both locally and throughout the state.3
WHEREAS, in 1984, Lane Carson, state chairman of the Reagan/Bush campaign and4
DeNell Haines, a dedicated Republican woman, hosted an organizational meeting for5
seventeen women who believed that it was time for a republican women's club in6
Mandeville; and7
WHEREAS, on May 17, 1984, the Mandeville Republican Women's Club received8
its charter from the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW), officially9
establishing it as an affiliate club of both the NFRW and the Louisiana Federation of10
Republican Women; and11
WHEREAS, the first initiative that the ladies undertook was establishing a12
Reagan/Bush Victory Team Headquarters and organized voter registration at Mandeville13
City Hall; and14
WHEREAS, in 1986, the club began hosting fundraisers for candidates and local15
charities, coordinating campaign efforts and volunteer support, providing forums for16
candidates and elected officials to meet their constituents and hear from the voters as well17
as recruiting and training candidates to run for office; and 18 SR NO. 145

WHEREAS, the women continue these activities along with providing voter1
education and information to all interested citizens; and2
WHEREAS, the club is recognized as a powerful volunteer political force locally and3
throughout the state; and 4
WHEREAS, in 1988 the members played a major role in hosting the Republican5
National Committee Convention in New Orleans which is still a fond memory among the6
party; and 7
WHEREAS, the club has received many awards and recognition to include the8
NFRW Diamond and Gold Awards, club awards for fundraising, community service,9
membership growth, and literacy; and10
WHEREAS, in conjunction with the club's success over the years, many Mandeville11
Republican Women members have been recognized for their leadership and service, and12
many have been appointed or elected to a variety of offices at the local, state, and federal13
levels; and14
WHEREAS, the Mandeville Republican Women hosts several signature events in15
Mandeville such as the Fall Card Party, Christmas Membership Tea and Auction,16
Candidates' Jazz Brunch and Glad Hatters' Competition, Storybook Christmas, and the17
Passion For Fashion show; and18
WHEREAS, for thirty years members of the Mandeville Republican Women's Club19
has been dedicated to making a difference in and for the community.20
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana21
does hereby commend the Mandeville Republican Women on thirty years of volunteer22
public service both locally and throughout the state, and celebrates the accomplishments of23
the Mandeville Republican Women's Club, and honors those who believed in their mission.24
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Jan25
Chandler, President of the Mandeville Republican Women's Club.26 SR NO. 145
