SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 148

SENATE. To commend the organizers of the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership
seminars and to recognize May 22, 2014, as Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Day in the
state of Louisiana.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the organizers of the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership seminars and2
to recognize May 22, 2014, as Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Day in the state of3
Louisiana.4
WHEREAS, Hugh O'Brian, the Hollywood star who portrayed Wyatt Earp in the5
television series "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp", founded the Hugh O'Brian Youth6
Leadership Foundation in 1958; and7
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation, also known as HOBY,8
organizes and promotes annual leadership seminars for thousands of high school sophomores9
throughout the United States and abroad; and10
WHEREAS, the objectives of the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program are to11
seek out, recognize, develop, and reward leadership potential in high school students, to12
encourage and assist young people in their quests for self-identification and self13
development, to host workshops for young people with recognized leaders in business,14
industry, government, science, and education, and to stimulate opportunities for young15
people to demonstrate their leadership abilities for the benefit of their communities and their16
country; and17
WHEREAS, to date, more than four hundred seventy-five thousand students have18 SR NO. 148

completed the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program.1
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana2
does hereby commend the organizers of the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership3
seminars slated for June 13-15, 2014, and does hereby recognize May 22, 2014, as Hugh4
O'Brian Youth Leadership Day in the state of Louisiana.5
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to6
Cindy Bishop, chairperson of the Louisiana HOBY Leadership Seminar, and to Hugh7
O'Brian, who turned eighty-nine on April 19, 2014.8
